The Benefits of Wool

Natural wool bedding provides a deep and restorative sleep because wool helps maintain your natural body temperature and wicks away moisture, keeping you dry and comfortable. Wool also naturally repels dust mites and inhibits the growth of other allergens such as bacteria, mold and mildew. Most of our wool products are made of certified organic wool or Eco-Wool. Because wool is naturally flame resistant wool mattresses and other wool bedding have the ability to meet flammability requirements naturally, and therefore have absolutely no chemical flame retardants added.

As a side note, many people think they are allergic to wool because it makes them itch. Scratchy wool is a function of the diameter of the fiber. The smaller the diameter, the better the feel. Many people who feel they are allergic to wool are actually just irritated by the coarse, large-diameter fiber found in sweaters etc. Needless to say, our blankets and other wool products are made with very fine fiber that will not feel itchy!

Wool-Based Futon Mattresses

ECO-Wool Mattress

ECO Sleep Solutions, also sells a high-quality, wool mattress. It is made by Holy Lamb and contains exceptional quality eco-wool. This is a futon-style mattress that will be on the firm side, but that does not continue to pack down over time like cotton does. Wool has natural loft that allows it to remain springy, even after years of use.  This mattress is resistant to mildew, dust mites and other moisture-related problems because wool evaporates moisture extremely quickly.   Wool has many other great properties including the ability to keep you dry and comfortable all night.

Deep Sleep and Ultimate Deep Sleep toppers by Holy Lamb Organics.

Organic cotton cover with Eco-Wool fill.

Wool mattress toppers have two essential benefits. They provide a natural sleeping surface and also soften a mattress. Wool mattress toppers do a great job of keeping you dry and comfortable. And unlike memory foam, they are non toxic.

The Deep Sleep is Holy Lamb's lighter weight, hand-made wool-filled topper. The Ultimate Deep Sleep is a heavier-weight topper. It has approximately 50% more wool than the Deep Sleep topper.

Both weights use premium Eco-Wool sourced from regional sheep ranchers. No imported wool is used in these hand-made & hand-tufted plush toppers.

Wool bedding resists dust mites and other allergens because it maintains a dry environment that deters dust mite infestation and bacteria growth.

Natural Fiber Pillows

Eco-Wool-Filled Pillows

An Eco-Wool pillow has fantastic properties. It is nearly as soft as goose down and has a more consistent density. Because wool wicks away moisture it also helps you stay dry and comfortable. It also stays free of dust mites, mildew and other moisture-related allergens.

All of our wool pillow casings are made of certified organic cotton and the wool fiber inside each pillow has been processed gently at an organic mill and contains no chemical residue at all.

The Holy Lamb brand Eco-Wool pillows come in three different fill-weights for standard sizes. They also come in Body-Pillow sizes. That means whether you like your pillow thin or thick, you are sure to find one that is just right. This type pillow is one of our softest.

The Holy Lamb brand Adjustable Wool Pillows are a comfortable and unique pillow filled with very small tufts of Eco-Wool. This pillow is very malleable which makes it a great pillow for those who shift between side sleeping and back sleeping. The zippered case lets you remove some tufts to lower the height, or add tufts to increase the height.

The Holy Lamb Orthopedic Pillow helps keep your spine in proper alignment. It has a thick and a thin contoured neck bolster on either side, so you can choose the amount of support you need. The design provides proper support for your neck, head and spine. It was developed by Holy Lamb with help from a chiropractic physician.

Having the right pillow is nearly as important as having the right mattress. And it is important that the pillow match the mattress and your sleeping style. In general, a softer mattress requires a lower pillow than a firmer mattress. Another basic consideration is that side-sleepers tend to need higher pillows than back-sleepers because a back-sleeper's head is closer to the mattress than a side-sleeper's head. So when you pick out your pillow in our store, test it first on one of our mattresses that most closely resembles your own mattress.

Natural Rubber Latex Pillows

Just as a reminder, natural rubber latex is a plant-based material. You can feel confident that it a good place to rest your head every night. We carry natural talalay and organic dunlop latex pillows.

Latex pillows provide great comfort and support. We have them in a "soap shape" a "contour" shape, and also in a shredded style. The organic dunlop style tends to be medium density, while the natural talalay is soft. The shredded latex pillows have the ultimate in malleability and are also adjustable in height.

Organic Kapok Pillows

Made by Savvy Rest, this pillow has an organic cotton cover and organic kapok fill. Kapok is sustainable and comes from the seed pod of the Ceiba tree. The trees are not harmed during harvesting of the seed pods. This pillow has a fluffy, luxurious softness. The pillow is malleable and adjustable in height.

Hull Pillows

Made by Sachi Organics, these pillows can have either buckwheat or millet fill with a comfort layer of thick wool on top. Both have a zippered organic cotton case that allows them to be adjusted in height by removing or adding hulls. These are some of our firmest pillows. Being on the thick side, they are great for side-sleepers.
